Supplier Fraud Integration

Overview

What is supplier fraud?

Ravelin recognises Supplier Fraud as any fraudulent activity being carried out by the supplier to boost their earnings or gain material goods. Our solution targets common fraud scenarios such as fake customer account and order creation, theft of genuine orders, artificial increases to fees, as well as collusion and payment fraud.

By “Supplier” we mean any third party associated with an order that may gain from commiting fraud as part of the order process. Common examples of Suppliers include marketplace sellers, couriers, taxi drivers and restaurants.

Supplier fraud is a complex problem as it can take many different forms, it can be opportunistic and simple or professional and sophisticated.

Recognising that suppliers are often only partially involved in fraudulent behaviour, the aim of our solution is to identify new fraud threats and increase friction for known threats without restricting supply and genuine growth.

How Ravelin prevents supplier fraud

To prevent supplier fraud, you send us details about the suppliers, the customers and the orders using our API. At the point of checkout we can return a recommendation that looks at the supplier behaviour and the order details to decide whether you should accept the order or not. Additionally, you can check a supplier’s score on demand through the Ravelin dashboard and take further action on the supplier. Ravelin can also provide a recommendation before a payout is processed. For more details, check our Payout fraud guide.

Ravelin produces these recommendations using a combination of machine learning and rules.

  • Machine learning
Ravelin uses anomaly detection models to identify signs of fraudulent behaviour, such as connections and similarities between supplier and customer accounts, repeated orders, voucher use, refunds, cancellations and other suspicious behaviour.

  • Rules
Rules are also available to stop suppliers with high-risk behaviour and can be used to create risk-based controls on the customer side at the moment of placing an order.

  • Score Thresholds
By setting score thresholds, you can locate suppliers to recommendations bands and automate actions based on their score change that cause them to move between bands.

  • Supplier Registrations
Ravelin can also perform analysis and recommendations on supplier registration. If you would like to utilise Ravelin recommendations from the beginning of supplier onboarding, check our Account Registration abuse guides.
